Today hasn't been as exciting as the beginning of the week. I spent most of the day at home watching tv and/or watching Joshua work on a new technique:encaustic painting. We did visit the Blanton Museum at UT in the morning before the SXSW activities got started. The trees on the grounds were spectacular! I was impressed with the Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties exhibit. The exhibit featured artwork from Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, and Norman Rockwell. There were a couple of pieces that caught my eye in smaller exhibits throughout the museum: the immense cowboy and bull fiberglass sculpture by Luis Jimenez (1976) titled Progress II was striking with both of the animals donning electric red eyes and the simple painting of two women by Jerry Bywaters (1940) titled Oil Field Girls. Great pieces of art!
